Election Update: Narrow finishes and big wins

The latest official results from the 2025 General Election show a mixed outcome across four constituencies, with seats between the Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST), Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) and independent candidates.
The contests highlighted both landslide victories and razor-thin margins.
In Gagaifomauga 2, FAST’s Fo’isala Lilo Tuu Ioane edged ahead with 334 votes, while independent candidate Falesaopule Seimaleula Vaialia Iosua was close behind on 310 votes. HRPP’s Tologataua Sooalo Sioeli Alofaifo Lamese trailed narrowly with 303 votes. The difference of just 14 votes between the second and third place candidates underlined how tight the competition was in this constituency, which recorded a total of 1,460 votes.
Overall, 190 special votes were counted, with a total of five special votes set aside.
In Vaisigano 1, FAST secured another win through Amituanai Malolo Tautofi Roma, who finished on 570 votes. Independent candidate Masoe Va’ai Matemini Seiuli Taulafo followed with 420 votes, while the Samoa Uniting Party’s Niuava Eti L. Malolo managed 158 votes. Overall voter count reached 1,152.
Overall, 78 special votes and four informal votes were counted.
In Vaisigano 2, independent candidate Motuopuaa Seve Henny Afereti Papali’i claimed victory with 409 votes, ahead of FAST contenders Tagaloa Leilua Tupou Afa (193 votes) and Sua Lesa Fa’avae Loli Timoteo (166 votes). SUP’s Valasi Luapitofanua Tafito Selesele picked up 135 votes, while HRPP’s Alopopo Siafausa Matafeo finished last with 76 votes. The total votes counted were 983.
Overall, 39 special votes and four informal votes were counted.
In Sagaga 4, HRPP’s Lefue Pelenise Lelevaga won by a landslide with 1,048 votes. Independent Patea Tuisa Tulimasealii Tasi came second on 540 votes, while FAST’s Tagaloatele Pasi Poloa followed with 476 votes. The Samoa Uniting Party (SUP) candidate Mataafa Saeni Leatupu’e trailed on 434 votes, and independent candidate Tumua Kelemete Sapau Vitale registered only four votes across seven booths. The constituency’s overall count was 2,514 votes cast.
Overall, 116 special votes and five informal votes were counted, with seven special votes set aside.
In A'ana Alofi 4, FAST candidate Afamasaga Leone Vaili Masame secured the seat with 848 votes ahead of the HRPP candidate Sevealii Taulalo Sevealii on 602 votes.
Other candidates vying for the seat included caretaker Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster with 454 votes, Lasei Sione Lasei with 65 votes and Tagoiaega Maotua Levi Puipui, an independent candidate, with 434 votes.
A'ana Alofi 4 had 103 special votes. Five of those were put aside. Informal votes recorded were eight.
In Sagaga 2, FAST candidate Fata Ryan Schuster also secured his seat with a total of 1,297 votes. Maualaivao Seiuli Pepe Seiuli of HRPP came second with 899 votes, followed by SUP candidate Maulolo Tavita Ualese Amosa with 727 votes. The lowest-scoring candidate was Tupualii Faalili Saena Seuai with 44 votes. The overall count for the Sagaga 2 constituency was 2,977.
The overall special votes were 160, plus four special votes put aside and six informal votes.
Overall trends show FAST strengthening its hold in certain constituencies, HRPP maintaining a strong base in Sagaga 4, and independent candidates proving highly competitive—especially in Vaisigano 2.
