Hot seats in 2025 poll race

The preliminary vote count for the 2025 General Election has revealed some tightly contested races; 17 candidates across eight constituencies are showing particularly close results.
The closest contest is in Palauli 2, where independent candidates Olo Faaolatane Fiu Tuala Iona Pao and Fiu Faaolatane Ponifasio Vasa are separated by just two votes. The second-closest race is in Faasaleleaga 2, where HRPP’s Vaaelua Senetenari Samau leads FAST’s Magele Sekati Fiaui by 15 votes.
These narrow margins underscore the competitive nature of this election and the potential for shifts as final results are confirmed. The Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) are leading the majority of these close margins, but the Human Rights Protection (HRPP) and Independents are not too far behind. These results are preliminary and subject to change.
In Palauli 2, independent candidate Olo Faaolatane Fiu Tuala Iona Pao holds a slim lead with 582 votes, while fellow independent Fiu Faaolatane Ponifasio Vasa is close behind on 580 — a razor-thin difference of two votes.
Another close race is in Faasaleleaga 2, where HRPP’s V Senetenari Samau leads with 599 votes, while FAST’s M Sekati Fiaui trails closely with 584 — a margin of 15.
In Gagaifomauga 2, FAST’s Foisala Tuu Ioane is ahead with 282 votes against HRPP’s T Sioeli Lamese, who has 251 — a difference of 31.
The contest in Faleata 1 is also tightly fought. FAST’s Manuleleua Plaetasala Talitau Tovale leads with 1,277 votes, followed by HRPP’s Faumuina Opapo Soanai Oeti on 1,249 (a margin of 28), and Manuleleua Sonny Lameta on 1,223 (a margin of 54).
In Anoamaa 1, FAST’s M Julius A K Tafunai is in front with 1,148 votes, while HRPP’s A M Sepulona Moananu has 1,110 — a 38-vote difference.
Other close races include Safata 2, where Tuia P F Leota leads with 599 against FAST’s T S John Matthes on 550 (a margin of 49), and Siumu, where independent F A Kapeliele II Faalog is ahead with 449, followed by FAST’s T Anasii Leota on 407 (a difference of 42).
In Falealili 2, FAST’s F M Tito Asafo leads with 279 votes, while independent F Maria T Meredith has 252 — a margin of 27.
