Between the Lines
ON THIS DAY
One year ago, on 3 January 2024, the police laid charges on a top political figure that set in motion the political dramas of 2025.
RUDE
It is disturbing when the law enforcers start acting as if the nation is under the control of a military junta. The way the police were speaking to people who had gathered to celebrate New Year’s in town was appalling and rude. People pay taxes, and taxes are used to pay for police.
ACCIDENT
No one was seriously injured in an accident a few days ago where one vehicle came to be on top of another. It was bad luck for a family in one of those cars that missed out on their flight.
COURTHOUSE
It looks like when the court session resumes next month, it will still happen in the leaking building at Mulinuu. No dates have been given for when repairs will start. With almost $5 million for the work, a tender will have to be called. Hopefully, the building will be standing by then.
NOT CHAIR
Even in the constituency that was won uncontested, the chair for the council that will deal with close to $2 million annually is not the winning candidate.
PRICES
If people have noticed changes in the prices of things packed in plastic bottles and cans, then the waste levy has kicked in.
