Between the Lines
DELAYS
The days are passing by, and a $30 million project hangs in the balance as its completion has been moved to next month. It looks like more time may be needed, and there are rumoured cash flow problems.
INCREMENTS
The national budget came into effect at the beginning of the month. This means that all the increases in social welfare payments, including pensions and disability, will be seen in the payments this month. If it is not, then we have a problem.
NO FOOD
Patients at the national hospital have claimed that they did not receive meals. The last time this happened was when the kitchen staff did not show up. What could have gone wrong now if the claims are true?
FINES
The elections office seems to have quietened down. Quite a number of people were identified as not having registered, and some did not vote. These people need to start collecting their fines.
CHOICE
A small fish, around 20 centimetres, costs around $30. In contrast, a cheap can of fish costs around $3. Families facing cost-of-living issues are choosing the latter. It may not be a healthy choice.
STILL AROUND
In case people forget, dengue fever is still around and still being reported at the hospital. We are now in the wet season. Does this need to be spelt out?
