Between the Lines
COMPENSATION
With the distribution of the Manawanui compensation, more and more villagers are saying they were the worst affected. The government department that will be distributing the funds should take note.
DENIAL
After an assault outside the home of a politician, BTL has been informed that there is a complete denial that the incident took place. The Sunday church will be about absolving the sin of lying.
MAINTAIN
Poor maintenance seems to be habitual, or is it part of poor planning? Several government buildings are deteriorating as a result, and now the US$10 million park. It is a lesson many have not learnt.
BEGGING
The use of children to beg is increasing. Adults are using children to approach vehicles outside busy carparks. Begging is an offence under the Samoan Crimes Act 2013. It is also an offence under Section 15 (1) of the Samoan Police Offences Ordinance 1961 (1961, No. 15).
MEDIA
The media body says most are frustrated at how some of the government press conferences are conducted and claim they have complained that they are controlled or limited to one question sometimes.
CHILDREN
The litter problem will not go away if the awareness campaigns are targeted at adults. It is safe to say that it is a wasted effort. Children are the way forward. Teach them now, and the results will show.
