FILLING NUMBERS

Police are hiring more people. It is not to increase their numbers but to fill the numbers impacted by staff leaving for seasonal work. This explains the 24-hour shifts in some outposts.

RESIGNED

There is confirmed word on the grapevine that a couple of people have resigned and left the nation’s disciplined forces. These were people in the executive. Many are pondering what drove the career officers to leave.

GOOD PEOPLE

There are good people still around who will return lost items. A local person has put up a lost foreign passport on social media, hoping to find its owner. There have been cases when people have returned money. There is still hope.

HABITUAL

Old habits die hard, and in this case, people are back at it again. After the dengue scare is over, some people are back to throwing plastic bottles and cans anywhere they please. The flooded drains have brought some of them out.

AFTERMATH

The heavy rains will come and go as the trough of low pressure surrounds the nation. What will remain are puddles and water collected in old tyres, cans and plastic bottles. Once again, it allows mosquitoes a perfect place to breed. Welcome back, dengue fever.
