Between the Lines
DOGGED
Some candidates are glad the elections are over. Over the last month, some had been dogged by potential voters scamming money from them. What is wrong with saying no to corruption or extortion?
ALCOHOL SALES
Retailers across the country confirmed a rise in alcohol sales over the last week. Some said they were surprised by the amounts being purchased. Where could this money be from?
SLEEPLESS
Most election officials did not show up at the operations centre until after midday. It has been quite a few nights of sleep for an hour or so. All the hard work is almost over.
DEPRESSED
A visit to a political party camp on Saturday was depressing. It seemed that the party had accepted defeat. The only avenue left now is the legal challenges, but that is based on evidence.
DOUBLE TIME
Since it was two days of public holidays, the labour ministry needs to make checks to ensure everyone working on the two days is paid what is owed to them according to the law. Some dubious employers may not follow the law.
HARDER
Things have just become harder for the Manu Samoa to qualify for the Rugby World Cup. Fiji convincingly defeated Tonga, which means that the national team needs a victory by at least 40 points to ensure progression to the semi-finals and a chance to qualify for the RWC.
