Between the Lines
DRY
Many of the ATMs around the township and some even further out had run dry on Wednesday evening as there was a rush to get cash out. It could be the rush to buy alcohol before the ban kicked in.
GIFTS
Reports kept trickling in about cash handouts being given. As polling day drew closer, many hopefuls and their committees were busy. Years of breeding such a culture are now seeing voters extort candidates, some from every one of the hopefuls.
INKED
A voter wondered why there was a need for the indelible ink to be put on fingers when there was a biometric feature in the registration to identify voters. It is a good question.
COVERAGE
Some media companies could end up in hot soup. According to reports, the elections office is investigating some for violating the media laws surrounding election coverage.
SPECIAL
The special voting system is doing wonders for easing the load on the inter-island ferries. A traveller on the last ferry to Savaii found it not so full compared to 2021. Savaii voters in Upolu can vote at any polling booth for their district.
CAR PARADE
There was plenty of action on the eve of the elections. There was even a car parade in a particular district in a show of support for a candidate. Is this in violation of the ban on the campaign period?
