Between the Lines

ARRIVALS

The beautiful members of the red party were spotted greeting overseas Samoan arrivals. Some were transported to their destinations. They must be special donors. It must be a typo; donors should have read voters.

HUNDRED

It would be great if overseas Samoans registered to vote could cast their votes, the whole 72 of them. This would mean 100 per cent votes cast, at least in one category.

NO OBSERVERS

Neither the Pacific Islands Forum nor the Commonwealth have assigned election observers for the general elections. Their participation was important in verifying a free and fair election. Samoa must be hitting marks above the required threshold for free and fair elections for the two bodies not to send anyone.

OBSERVERS

Some overseas Samoans who are not voting have opted to stay back in the country. Their reason for the decision is that they want to observe the elections. At least there will be someone ‘observing’ the elections.

GIFTS

Some retailers are expecting a lot of money to be spent during this week. Some voters claimed they had received the customary cash to exercise their rights to vote fairly and without fear or favour.

POWER

Even if the power company is unable to keep the power supply normal during the election, the elections are ready. Close to $5,000 has been spent on ensuring an uninterrupted power supply at each venue.
