Between the Lines
STOCK EXCHANGE
A very ambitious manifesto by the red party and there are some very good social welfare initiatives, and the free hospital service is something all will welcome. However, the bit to introduce the stock exchange raises red flags and zeroes back to the Sasina Economic Zone plan, which was shelved by the government.
AWAITED
Now that the red party has come up with initiatives that rival the blue party and in some ways do one better, all eyes are fixed on the new big players, the green party. They will announce theirs next week.
COLLECTING
To those who did not register by choice, better start collecting money to pay the $2,000 fine if you cannot validate your reasons for not doing so. The elections office has promised that it will come after you.
FINED
In a turn of events, a photojournalist who has been catching police in action was caught out for not wearing a seatbelt. The tables were turned, and now he will be forking out $100 to pay his fine. A good lesson for all those driving and sitting in the front seats.
CHECKPOINTS
There are signs that the boys in blue are steadily increasing their presence around the country. There were quite a few checkpoints. These not only check on traffic-related matters but at times help nab people running from the law.
FOOTPATH
It would be helpful if the next government seriously considers building footpaths. Some places which are close to the town area do have places where pedestrians can walk safely. This becomes a bigger problem when it rains.
