Samoans from the USA are here for the church conference this week. Many have taken a big risk to attend the meeting in light of the immigration sweeps happening in the country formerly known as the Land of the Free.

FERRY

The last ferry disaster to happen in the Friendly Islands was in 2009, where 74 people died. The ship was a rusting bucket that was sold by a company from Fiji. For your information.

SHAMEFUL

Shameful act by a school to burn the crest and uniform of another. It will be easy to blame social media for such actions but it finally comes down to what children learn at home. As punishment, the students who carried out the act must be made to wear the other school’s uniform for a week.

VENTING

Anger flared at a registration venue when a member of the public assaulted a security personnel doing his job. If people’s visit to the registration site was last minute, do not vent frustration on people doing their work.

TRAINING

Expect many public servants to be seconded to the elections office in the coming weeks. This month would be perhaps the last chance to train those who will provide support during the elections. There should be no chance of error.

TAXIS

Some taxi drivers are still doing it. Upon seeing foreigners, the fare goes up two to three times. The transport authority needs to start using taxi meters or advertise the standardised fares better.
