Between the Lines
TIRING
The electioneering is taking its toll on senior politicians. With age catching up, many are finding themselves dozing off, even during fast-paced music concerts, as part of their campaign strategy.
DEPUTY LEADER
The deputy leader of a political party has taken centre stage in the last two events hosted by the party. The health of the party leader has been questioned, while some say the leader may even call it quits, but that is yet to happen.
MERCHANDISE
Political party merchandise is the new business. Some retailers have wasted no time in printing their versions of the top parties’ merchandise. If politicians can make money, so can retailers.
OVERSEAS
One party in particular is keen on serving the interests of overseas Samoans. According to the elections office, fewer than 300 overseas Samoans are registered to vote, but they still want to influence politics in Samoa through other means.
PLANES
The idea that half a million overseas Samoans give $500 each for two new aeroplanes sounds more like a pyramid scheme. How will the investment work? Will the half a million shareholders have a say in the company, and will they be paid dividends?
OPPOTUNITY
One man has the right idea. A man has set up a BBQ stall outside the busy registration hall. It is always said to seize the opportunity, and this man surely did.
