Between the Lines
BUDGET
The caretaker mode could end up having repercussions on the general elections. With only 25 per cent of the OEC budget approved for the next three months, it is still unclear how the elections will be supported.
AID MONEY
Election money may require deep digging. The unelected nature of the government may have forced the hands of donor partners to stop funding activities until an elected government is in place.
TENT
Could this be the second consecutive term when a government could be sworn in inside a tent? The work on the new Legislative Assembly building is ongoing, and the finish date is for next year. It is nowhere close to when a new government would be announced.
THIEVES
A woman sitting in a car with her windows rolled down was lucky to have been warned by a man in a car next to her. A youth circling the area had hidden behind the car and was creeping towards her to snatch the phone she was looking at.
WAGE RATE
In case employers have forgotten, the national minimum wage rate as of 1 July is now $4.80, according to the budget announcement made last year. Please pay your employees accordingly.
GRANTS
50 of the 51 districts have now received their third million. This means there is $50 million out there. If these public funds are not looked after properly, it could fall into the wrong hands.
