The International Day of Peace was commemorated at the National University of Samoa's Peace Garden on Monday evening.

The event was hosted by the National University of Samoa (N.U.S) Peer-to-Peer Initiative, Youth and Students for Peace (Y.S.P) Samoa and the National University of Samoa Students Association (N.U.S.S.A).

Rev. Maugana'i Seti Suafa, the leader of the Heavenly Parents Holy Community in Samoa, opened the gathering with a prayer.

Sociology lecturer, Rosa Filoi, said the event was part of the Peer to Peer Initiative’s Peer Assistance Study Initiative (P.A.S.I) Sessions, which is an opportunity for lecturers from the Faculty of Arts (F.O.A) and the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship (F.O.B.E) to offer help for students who need it as well as students to get help from one another.

She said they wanted to provide an opportunity and platform to collaborate with Y.S.P Samoa and for students to learn about the Peace Garden on Campus and hopefully inspire them.

“It was just really also to be there physically to be inspired by the space and how we could also see around the space, how it could be a positive place and space for students,” she said.

The Vice President of Y.S.P Samoa, Yongkwon Atimalala Suafa, told the Samoa Observer that the event gave them an idea going forward.

“We want to revive that Garden and hopefully clean up the area back there," he said. 

"So the Peace garden is located behind the N.U.S car park just below the Tamaligi tree, so that's where we decided to plan for future projects or even a cleanup project where we can make the garden look nice again."
