A police officer was terminated for leaking information to suspects regarding a police raid last week, said Prime Minister La'aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt during his press conference.

La'aulialemalietoa said this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and he has advised the Acting Police Commissioner, Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga, to conduct an urgent investigation.

This raid was conducted at the home of a man with previous drug charges and convictions. When the police arrived, no one was at home.

"I advised the acting Police Commissioner to charge this police officer if there's enough evidence to do so," La'aulialemalietoa said.

"This has put the lives of the police at risk, and prison is the place for any police officer who is confirmed to be leaking information."

The police have conducted more than 10 raids in the last four weeks and have charged up to 50 people.
