The Unit Trust of Samoa (U.T.O.S.) has declared a 10.02 per cent overall return to its unitholders at the conclusion of the Financial Year.

The announcement was made by the Board of Directors for the Trust’s Management Company through a media statement.

According to the statement, U.T.O.S. closed off the Financial Year by declaring a final dividend of .04 sene per unit.

The final dividend payout amounts to a total of $3.30 million distributed to unitholders.

The overall dividend payout, combining the interim with the final, amounts to $6.20 million.

This was an historic year for the Trust because an interim and final dividend had been declared and paid out in one financial year, amounting to a total dividend yield of 4.72 per cent.

In addition to the dividend, unitholders also benefited from a 5.30 per cent growth in the value of the unit from July 2019 to June 2020.

The dividend yield and capital growth amounts to a total return to unitholders of about 10 per cent and this is a testament to the positive performance of the investment portfolio of the Trust.

The U.T.O.S. Management Company’s Chief Executive Officer, Tevaga Viane Tagiilima, acknowledged the support of all its unitholders during tough times.

He added that although it’s been an unpredictable year, with the economic consequences of the measles outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic,  the Trust’s financial performance has been stable,

“On behalf of the Trustees, the Chairman and the Board of Directors, the Management and Staff of U.T.O.S. (Management) Limited would like to convey our gratitude to all Samoans locally and abroad who continually invest in the Unit Trust of Samoa,” he said.

The unit balance as at 30th June 2020 is the basis of the dividend calculation and will be payable to unitholders on Wednesday, 8th July 2020 for a period of 3 months.
