A few villagers of Lotofaga were dropped off and walked over to the Lotofaga EFKS to cast their votes on Friday morning, 29 August. Later in the day, cars filled the EFKS car park, with many voters arriving in pairs or with their families.

Six polling officials were stationed at the Lotofaga EFKS booth, while one electoral official was assigned to move between the three booths to monitor and track the process. The other two booths were confirmed to have five polling officials each.

Polling officials woke up as early as 5 a.m. to set up the booths in preparation for the 8 a.m. start. The morning prayer was led by Reverend Kapeni Matatia and his wife, Faletua Renolla Matatia.

Oneta Neueli, Moamoa Luka and Vesia Telefoni were among the first voters to arrive, saying they were glad to cast their ballots early and get it “over and done with.” After voting, the three women made their way to work at the Seabreeze Resort. Other voters who followed also expressed relief once they had cast their votes.

Lines at the Lotofaga EFKS booth began to grow steadily between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., peaking just before midday before easing again. Elderly voters and those unable to stand for long periods were given priority.

Two police officers were stationed at the site, while a police patrol vehicle made rounds in the area. A vehicle was also seen transporting electoral officials between booths.

The Lotofaga EFKS booth was expected to be where Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa would cast her vote. However, efforts by the Samoa Observer to follow her vehicle proved unsuccessful. Fiame’s convoy was first seen heading toward Lepa, passing the Lepa EFKS, before diverting in a different direction and again later at Saleapaga.
