More than 39,000 eligible voters across Samoa remain unregistered, according to the latest data released by the Office of the Electoral Commissioner (OEC).

As of 9 am Monday, 16 June, only 67 per cent of the eligible population had completed the mandatory voter re-registration. Out of 117,225 voting-age residents, 78,103 have registered, leaving 39,122 (33 per cent) still to register.

The updated figures show a slight increase from the 13 June update, where 66 per cent had registered and 40,381 people (34 per cent) were yet to register. The data highlights a slow but steady pace in the re-registration process, which the OEC is urgently trying to accelerate.

Other constituencies continue to report lower re-registration rates. Faleata 3 (39 per cent registered), Sagaga 1 (46 per cent), and Faleata 1 (46 per cent) remain among the worst performing, despite large voting populations. In contrast, rural areas such as Falealili 2 (93 per cent), Gagaifomauga 3 (114 per cent), and Falealupo (113 per cent) have either met or exceeded registration targets, possibly due to earlier awareness efforts.

Overseas registrations remain minimal. Of the 6,902 total online re-registrations, only 183 are from overseas, with New Zealand accounting for the highest foreign turnout (98). Local online registrations total 6,719.

The OEC has repeatedly urged the public to re-register, reminding citizens that failure to do so will result in ineligibility to vote in upcoming elections. The re-registration process is designed to update the national electoral roll and includes cross-checking against the Ministry of Education’s EMIS database.

With time running out, the OEC continues to encourage all eligible voters to act promptly to ensure full participation in Samoa’s democratic process.
