Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi chairman, Laauli Leuatea Schmidt, denied that a Facebook group using his name to spread misleading information about other parties was his.

He said he was not involved or aware of these groups using his name.

A public group on Facebook named Laaulialemalietoa Polataivao Schmidt shared a photo of the Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka and Fijian police officers visiting the Robertson Road in Suva, following a disturbing video shared on social media showing minors injecting drugs in public. However, a member of the group posted the photo and captioned it that the Human Rights Protection Party was visiting families in Aleisa and Faleata to get votes.

"I have reported all these fake pages and groups being created and using my name and image. I don't know who these people are, what their intentions are or how they operate. I am making this comment again, asking these people to be respectful with the languages used," he said.

"I apologise to the people who are being victimised by these posts, I have nothing to do with it. I have already done something to clear my name. Best believe that I am not involved with any of these pages."

The Office of the Electoral Commissioner stated that they have a communication committee that monitors social media misinformation and disinformation regarding their services and immediately reports it to the Commissioner for corrective action.

The public is also advised to refrain from posting or dissemination of misleading information.
