Faumuina humbled by win, credits support

Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) candidate Faumuina Opapo Oeti expressed gratitude and humility after officially securing the parliamentary seat for Faleata No.1 in the 2025 General Election.
In an exclusive interview with the Samoa Observer following the completion of the final count in his constituency, Faumuina said his election victory is a blessing and a responsibility, one that reflects not only the trust of his community but also the divine will of God.
“You must feel humbled before God, because all leadership roles come from Him,” Faumuina explained. “We waited patiently and with a humble heart to see where God’s will would lead us. I am thankful for this opportunity, not only to serve the people of Faleata No.1 but also to contribute to the development, peace, and wellbeing of our entire nation.”
Faumuina expressed heartfelt appreciation to his village, Lepea, and the many families and individuals who stood behind him throughout the campaign.
“I want to sincerely thank my village of Lepea, together with everyone who supported me and voted for me,” he said. “Above all, I give thanks and glory to God for His guidance and blessings.”
The road to victory was not without moments of uncertainty. Preliminary results on Friday initially showed another candidate leading in the count. However, Faumuina said he remained composed and grounded in his faith.
“My faith in God never wavered,” he said. “I was not worried because I knew there were still many pre-poll and special votes to be counted. I also believed that, whatever the final result would be, it would be God’s answer. I placed my full trust in Him.”
Faumuina said this faith provided him with strength and peace during the tense moments of the electoral process.
With his election now confirmed, Faumuina says his focus is on dedicated service to his constituents and the broader Samoan community.
“I will use my life and strength to serve my constituency and all of Samoa,” he said. “My greatest desire is to see peace in our country, a peace that allows our people to prosper, live with dignity, and enjoy growth opportunities.”
He described the honour as a sacred duty, entrusted by God and the people, and pledged to uphold the trust given to him with integrity and humility.
Faumuina’s win in Faleata No.1 is among the early confirmed results in the 2025 General Election.
