Gagaemauga No.1's Va’aaoao keeps fingers crossed

Va’aaoao Salumalo Alofipo of Gagaemauga No.1, representing the Fa’atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party, has pledged to focus on agricultural development as a cornerstone of his tenure if he gets into parliament.
Following the preliminary count, Va’aaoao secured 448 votes, surpassing Samoa Ua Potopoto’s (SUP)Tuala Iosefo Ponifasio, who received 291 votes; Independent candidate Lauano Mulivai Lauano, with 217 votes; and Tevaga Mikaele Ah-Lam of the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP), who garnered 177 votes.
In an interview with the Samoa Observer, Va’aaoao said, “All praise be to God, for through His love, success has been achieved. I also thank my constituency of Gagaemauga No.1 for your trust in me. I will do my best to serve you to the fullest of my abilities.”
He noted that large portions of the district’s land remain underutilised and expressed a commitment to promoting sustainable farming practices, supporting local farmers, and developing initiatives that make full use of Gagaemauga No.1’s fertile lands.
Va’aaoao’s agricultural vision builds on existing community-driven efforts in the district, such as the First Harvest Organising Committee, which has showcased local produce in recent years. By leveraging these initiatives, he aims to strengthen local food security, create economic opportunities, and encourage sustainable development.
Va’aaoao emphasised the importance of aligning policy with the district’s specific needs. He highlighted that the development of agriculture in Gagaemauga No.1 is critical not only for economic growth but also for ensuring that local communities can benefit from the district’s natural resources.
Va’aaoao’s said it was a broader commitment within FAST to support rural development and empower local communities through practical, results-driven programs. With agriculture at the forefront of his agenda, he said he aims to deliver tangible improvements that respond directly to the priorities of his constituents.
