The debate raging on in parliament looks more like a formality as the numbers in the house suggest it is when the budget will be passed and not if. Elected officials have to show that they are working for their money.

STEP DOWN

This is something from the region. The Fijian deputy prime minister stepped down immediately after being charged with perjury and giving false information.

ALIENS

If people find Kiwis, the flightless birds and some other New Zealand creatures in the South Coast, don’t be surprised. Especially around Poutasi.

SAVALALO

The current status of the $30 million Savalalo Market is nowhere close to matching the artist’s impression of the finished building. The timeline for completion was shifted from August to December, just two months remain.

GENIUSES

Heavy diesel mechanics in Samoa are geniuses. Where else in the world 40 to 60 year old buses are on the road on daily. It’s either that or the drivers and passengers are daredevils.

YOUTH

Youth empowerment and leadership seminars seem to be happening every other week. It would be great if these resulted in youths being present in politics. No one in parliament is below 40 years old.
