Between the Lines

AVOIDED

Thanks to the presence of police around the sevens tournament at Apia Park, a few fights were averted. There were heated moments, but there was good control from the police.

PROMISES

Election promises are now coming out. Will there be a party that will make education free, improve health services, hire more teachers and nurses and cut food costs? Let’s wait and see.

HANDOUT

The blue party’s promises of $500 per person annually sound like an offer to buy votes. Making education free will save families thousands a year. No need to give the handout, and calling it poverty alleviation.

GUNS

HALTED

Projects dependent on incoming foreign aid may be held back as some development partners require elected governments to be in place for the release of funds. This is a common practice.

APIA PARK

Samoa will be missing out on more international rugby test matches. There is no word on what will happen to the Apia Park grandstand and when it will happen.
