Between the Lines
SCHOOL FIGHT
A fight between girls at a secondary school had to be quickly broken up as guests for an official program were on their way. Interestingly, the fight started after a lecture on motivation and helping each other.
WHISTLE
Match officials for the games between the deaf teams were in for a surprise after realising their whistles alone were enough to stop the game for fouls and turnovers.
CONTRACEPTIVES
Attempts to distribute contraceptives in villages have been met with strong opposition. NGOs have been told that contraceptives promote sexual activity. Can villages then explain the high number of teen pregnancies?
FISH COUNT
Many fishermen are discovering low catches at their usual spots. Catching undersized fish has an effect, and it leads to a low fish population.
BURGLARY
Another home was broken into in Vaitele. While the thieves could not find any electronics, the fridge and the food cupboard were raided. More police patrols and or a neighbourhood watch are needed.
FREE SCREEN
Here is a food for thought for the health ministry. In NZ, women between 45 and 69 are screened free every year to check for breast cancer. Let the mammogram machine arrive first.
