Team Samoa boxing has won seven gold medals to wrap up their Pacific Games campaign.

All the Samoan boxers who had been scheduled to fight for gold were successful.

They are: Faasu Loia 69-75kg, Nuuuli Mose 60kg, Marion Faustino Ah Tong 69kg, Jancen Poutoa 75kg, Ato Leau Plodzicki Faoagali 81kg, Afaese Hugo Fata Kalepi 91kg, Filimaua Hala +91kg.

More details coming soon.

The day before, hundreds of people who gathered to see live action were treated to a marvellous performance from Team Samoa.

Among the seven boxers who secured gold medals was Samoa’s only female boxer.

Samoa’s finalists:

1) Jancen Poutoa who is representing Samoa in the Middle Weight 75kg category put up a very strong fight against his Tuvalu opponent.

He came out too strong in the second round which forced the referee to stop the fight securing him a spot to box for what possibly going to be his first medal.

Jancen is up against Ramses Thimoumi of New Caledonia in the final.

2) The first session concluded with another win to Team Samoa by Afaese Hugo Fata who was up against a strong and tall opponent from Tahiti, Heimata Neuffer.

Both fighters were very skillful and very experienced.  It was a tough battle of strength but Hugo won by split decision and will fight Papua New Guinean Arthur Ray Lavalou today in the 91kg Heavyweight category.

3) Marion Faustino Ah Tong won by default when the doctors did not give the okay for his opponent Franck Castan from New Caledonia to fight.

Ah Tong is fighting for gold against Warren Tooro Warupi from Papua New Guinea today in the 69kg welter weight category.

4)Nu’uuli Mose from Samoa put on a really good fight against Thadius Katua from Papua New Guinea in the 60 kg Light Weight.

It was a tight match as both boxers came in the ring well prepared and fought with their hearts.

And judging by the loud cheers and anticipations from the crowd, this was one of the most intense and entertaining fight of the day.

However, Nu’uuli Mose won by split decision and is fighting Pemberton Lele from Solomon Island.

5) Another finalist is none other than Tupuola Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali.

He has been the centre of attention since day one and has not had a rest since the competition started.

Tupuola was up against William Ken Hurrell from Tonga in the 81kg Light Heavy Weight category.

The Tongan boxer tried to keep up with Tupuola’s strong and fast pace.

However, Tupuola who is well known as Ato took advantage of his height and a punch from his left hook secured his spot to fight for gold for Samoa.

He won by unanimous decision and will be up against another Samoan boxing for American Samoa, Jolando Lala Ta’ala.

6)The final bout of the semi-finals was between Filimaua Hala from Samoa and Samson Bade from Solomon Island in the +91kg Super Heavy weight category.

Filimaua had a strong and fast start and a few seconds into the second round, the referee stopped the fight giving Filimaua a win by R.S.C.

Filimaua will fight against Sepasitiano Hurrell Lavemai from Tonga in the finale of this year’s Pacifc Games boxing.

Overall, the finalists are vying for 10 Gold medals for the men’s divisions and 3 gold medals for the women’s division.

Since day one, the boxing venue has been packed not only by our local community but also families and friends of the athletes from our neighbouring countries.

Finals will start at 11am on Friday at the Don Bosco Hall at Salelologa Savai’i.
