Sponsor goes all out for national deaf 7s team
Wiser Pasifika Samoa is now the naming rights sponsor for the Samoa Deaf Association 7s team. They have changed their team's name to Wiser Pasifika Samoa Deaf 7s, marking a milestone for the team and the deaf community in Samoa.
This is only the second time in history that Samoa’s Deaf Rugby 7s team will compete internationally. Their first outing at the 2019 Oceania Deaf Rugby 7s saw them achieve a remarkable silver medal, finishing runner-up to Fiji. The upcoming Pacific Rim tournament is another opportunity for the team to shine on the world stage and showcase the talent and spirit of deaf athletes from Samoa.
Wiser Pasifika Samoa’s support covers essential on-ground costs, including accommodation, meals, transport, training gear, medical and team logistics, allowing the players to focus fully on their preparation and performance.
The sponsorship also reflects the transformative power of sport, not just as competition, but as a platform for inclusion, empowerment, and visibility. Deaf athletes continue to face barriers to participation, but this partnership is a powerful statement that everyone deserves a chance to represent their country with pride.
Soane Ah Ken, Vice President of the Samoa Deaf Association said they were grateful to Wiser Pasifika Samoa for coming on board quickly and going above and beyond to support their campaign.
"Preparing a team in just three months has been a big financial challenge, and their timely support means a lot, especially within our Samoa deaf community,” he said.
Lilly Auvaa, President of Wiser Pasifika Samoa, said they were proud to sponsor the Samoa Men’s Deaf Rugby 7s Team.
"It’s a privilege to support these talented athletes as they compete and represent Samoa on the international stage, and we wish them all the best.”
The team will depart for the Pacific Rim Deaf Rugby Sevens Tournament on 25 June 2025, with an official farewell ceremony planned for 23 June 2025 at SASNOC Conference Room, Tuanaimato 6pm.
