Nineteen-year-old shooter, Franco Caffarelli, has returned home from Italy to represent Samoa in the 2019 Pacific Games.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, the young man studying in Italy said the Pacific Games shooting is an excellent competition to develop international experience.

“It’s a different environment aside from the usual tournaments we have here, clubs against clubs and now it’s country against country so I think it’s a great opportunity for me to improve my game and experience in international competitions,” he said.

“I’ve been to a few (tournaments) but this is the biggest one I’ve been to yet.

"Coming back from Italy, I mean I’ve got a few tips from Italians in Italy and it has improved my shooting so that makes me more confident in shooting here as well.”

Caffarelli is the son of the Samoa Shooting Federation President, Francis Caffarelli, and is the brother of Vardia Caffarreli who is also a shooter.

His prowess is in the shotgun category and he has been shooting for about eight years.

He has won a few medals in 2014 at the Oceania Championship that was held in New Zealand.

Regardless that he resides overseas for school, Caffarelli still insisted on improving his experience in shooting so he gathers experiences from around Italy.

He paid for his own airfare to travel to Samoa while he’s on summer holiday from school to represent Samoa this Pacific Games.

Franco wants to his family and Samoa proud.
