The Vailima Falealili Rugby 7s was launched by Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr Sa’ilele Maliegaoi at Poutasi Fields, Falealili on Friday, with the tournament to begin on Saturday.

Falealili Rugby Union head coach Soi Lalovi Lome said the main aim is create a tournament to bring together the youth and develop sevens in the constituency.

“Falealili have not had any rugby competition for years, hence chiefs and representatives of villages have come together to restart this important development for youth.”

The villages of Sapoe, Salani, Utulaelae, Satalo, Malaemalu, Tafatafa, Matautu, Poutasi, Saleilua, Sapunaoa and Vaovai will be represented at the tournament.

Satalo made it to the Cup quarterfinals at the recent Vailima Marist International Sevens Tournament, with players Tofatuimoana Solia and Maauga I'amanu earning selection to the Manu Samoa Sevens squad for the Las Vegas and Vancouver rounds of the World Rugby Sevens Series.

“This was an achievement celebrated by the constituency and also stands as a testament of the talent and x-factor capability of players from Falealili.”

The tournament organisers hope this new beginning is the start of a gradual process to reignite the game in Falealili and create more opportunities for players.
