No financial reports at SASNOC AGM
Questions were raised at the Annual General Meeting for the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (SASNOC) as to why no financial audited reports were presented, a practice normal in all AGMs.
Triathlon Samoa raised concerns when the new board was elected.
After their AGM, the Triathlon Samoa posted on their social media about their disappointment in the unpresented audited financial reports during their meeting.
"Our Executive Board member and Secretary-General Lani Young attended the AGM today at SASNOC. Representatives from all the sports National Federations were there to go through the financial report and to elect a new SASNOC board that will lead the country through the next four years. We are disappointed there was no auditor's report ready for the members, and we look forward to the Special General meeting that will be held in May for this purpose," the post reads.
Queries by this newspaper were sent to the President of SASNOC, Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork; however, there was no response as of press time.
Financial reports are very crucial in any organisation as they provide a clear picture of an organisation's financial health, enable informed decision-making, strategic planning and accountability for shareholders.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) requires all its affiliated members to publish audited financial statements as part of their annual reports, ensuring transparency and accountability in their financial operations.
These reports, which include the financial statements, are approved by members and demonstrate adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The reports also outline the national committee’s activities, including its engagement with athletes and its initiatives in areas like sustainability, human rights, and gender equality.
