Rugby League Samoa started their 13-a-side domestic tournament at Apia Park on Saturday with 14 teams signed up for the senior division and five in the Under 17s.

Tournament director Tuna Tovio said they have a busy year ahead.

"Our 13-aside domestic tournament is underway as usual. I'm sure you already know that our nine-a-side, which was carried out around Samoa, has concluded except for Savaii, which concludes today. For our nine-a-side, it went on for about seven weeks. Our 13-a-side will go on for the next two or three months," he said.

"We also have something planned out for July, where we will carry out a new tournament called the Harmony Cup, which will go on for the first week of July. We decided to call it the Rugby League Cup. After that tournament, we will resume our 13 aside until August. The purpose of the 13 aside is to select teams for our Harmony Cup and our annual Island of Origins."

Their Island of Origin will be used to select the Toa Resident team who will face the Fiji Resident in September this year. The 14 teams are, Marist Saints, Laulii Lions, Letava Bulldogs, Apia Baracuddas, Vaiala Blackie YES, SCOPA,Vaimoso Giants, Malie Sharks, Nofoalii Kupa, Saleimoa Steelers, Vaitele West Tigers, Leulumoega, Lepea Village, and Aana Broncos for Open Mens. For the U17s, they have Aana Broncos, Laulii Lions, Apia Baracuddas, Letava Bulldogs, and Punaoa Warriors.

According to Tuna, the door is still open for new teams that might want to register for the 13aside tournament.
