Willie Alofipo claimed two medals at the Southeast Asia and Oceania Championship in Thailand on the weekend.

He won a silver medal in the 97kg Greco-Roman style and a bronze in the 97kg freestyle.

Coach Gaku Akasawa said he was grateful for the opportunity to coach Willie and was happy with the outcome. Willie poured his heart out on the mat as he competed in Thailand. They have high hopes and plans for the future.

"We are aiming for a gold medal at the Pacific Games next year, a Commonwealth Games medal in two years, and the Los Angeles Olympics in four years," he said.

"I am not participating this time because I have not fully recovered from the knee injury I sustained at the Olympics. I participated as a coach."

Willie Alofipo also shared his experience at the Southeast Asia and Oceania Championships and competing against the best in the world of wrestling.

"It was a great experience to be able to compete against strong Asian wrestlers. I had a very good result this time, but I also had a chance to win. In the Greco-Roman style final, I was competing against a Vietnamese wrestler, and I was winning in the first half, so I need to have the stamina to fight until the second half," he said.

Willie Alofipo, also claimed gold in the Greco-Roman style category at the 2023 Oceania Senior Wrestling Championships.
