On the memorable date of 28 June 2023, amidst a gathering of the tennis community, neighbours, and cherished friends and family, Adira's Court opened its gates, unveiling a resurfaced historical landmark that transcends its physical boundaries.

This court, formerly known as the home of the Vailima Vets and Vailima Tennis Academy, holds a profound significance as it serves as a symbol of remembrance for a beloved daughter who has left an indelible mark on the hearts of her parents, Steffi and Kaino Thomsen-Fuataga.

Situated on the Carruthers' family estate in Vailima, this privately-owned tennis court holds a special place in the hearts of many families who have enjoyed countless hours of play on its hallowed grounds. Steffi, a former professional tennis player, and Kaino, an Olympian in taekwondo and a representative of Samoan national rugby, bring their passion for sports and a deep love for their daughter to the forefront with the resurfacing of Adira's Court.

The anticipation grew as both of Adira's grandmothers stood side by side, holding the ribbon. With beaming smiles, they did the honours of cutting the ribbon together. Amid cheers and applause, Adira's grandfather, Gary Carruthers, stepped onto the court. A veteran of the game, his hands steadied the racket as he prepared to serve the first ball. The legacy of generations echoed in that single serve, reminding everyone of the power of family bonds and the love for tennis that unites them.

A vibrant purple hue adorns the court, standing as a poignant symbol of Adira's spirit and her everlasting presence in the lives of those who loved her. Adira's Court, however, represents more than just a place for tennis enthusiasts. It is the catalyst for a transformative vision that aims to give back to the community and provide a haven of happiness, safety, and fellowship for both children and adults.

The evening was made even more special by the presence of seasoned veterans and promising young talents.

The tennis court lights illuminated the night, creating an enchanting atmosphere as kids played under the moonlit sky. The joyous laughter and lively chatter echoed throughout the court, accompanied by music playing in the background. Everyone present basked in the warmth of the occasion, cherishing the memories being made.

Adira's slogan, "Serving a bigger purpose," resonates as a testament to the ThomsenFuataga family's unwavering belief that their daughter's passing holds a profound significance. Inspired by this belief, they have dedicated themselves to pursuing a greater purpose by creating opportunities for the community to come together, not only to enjoy the sport they love but also to foster unity, well-being, and an active lifestyle.

The opening of Adira's Court is just the beginning of an ambitious and meaningful project that will unfold in the coming years. Steffi, Kaino and family envision a future where Adira's Court becomes a nucleus of positivity, a place where the community can find solace, joy, and camaraderie. It is their aspiration to touch the lives of countless individuals, creating lasting memories and leaving an enduring legacy.

Marking this occasion, the ThomsenFuataga family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to their families for their unwavering support. They would also like to extend their commendations to Plexipave, the New Zealand-based court surfacing company, for their exceptional workmanship in bringing Adira's Court to life.

In the face of adversity, the ThomsenFuataga family finds solace in the love and guidance provided by a higher power. They offer their gratitude to God for keeping them in the palm of His hands and guiding them on this extraordinary journey.

Adira's Court stands as a testament to the power of love, remembrance, and community spirit. With hearts full of gratitude and anticipation, the Carruthers and Thomsen Fuataga family warmly welcomes everyone to Adira's Court, where the pursuit of a greater purpose is beautifully intertwined with the joy of tennis and the bonds of fellowship.
