Premier boxing event set for month end
The Marist St Joseph’s Sports Club, through its Marist Boxing, will host the Marist Boxing "Rise Up" event, scheduled for Friday, 30 May 2025 at Don Bosco Hall, Alafua, a premier corporate showcase set to highlight the rising talent of local and regional amateur boxers.
With more than 15 electrifying amateur bouts and a main corporate fight featuring representatives from Pago Pago Police, the evening promises a high-energy celebration of boxing skill, discipline, and community pride.
The “Rise Up” theme is more than a slogan—it is a rallying call. It speaks to the fight inside and outside the ring: encouraging youth to rise above the challenges of drug and alcohol abuse, and instead, choose discipline, purpose, and excellence through sport. The event reinforces the important message that sport can be a powerful tool for positive change, supporting Samoa’s wider health and wellbeing goals.
The event is part of the Marist St Joseph’s Sports Club's annual sports season calendar, supporting the Government of Samoa’s vision for sports development by creating opportunities for local athletes to thrive. It also aligns with national efforts by collaborating with National Federations to support both grassroots development and elite athlete pathways.
“This event is about building pathways for our athletes and deepening our regional sporting ties. We’re proud to partner with the American Samoa boxing team and look forward to a night of unity and sporting excellence,”said Lemalu John Lemisio, President of the Marist St Joseph’s Sports Club.
Head Coach Stanley Iakopo of the visiting American Samoa Boxing Federation team also shared his excitement. “Our boxing team is fully committed and disciplined in their daily training as we gear up for the upcoming Marist Boxing tournament."
Every session is intense, blending technical drills, conditioning, and sparring to ensure our athletes are in peak form. The dedication and drive from each boxer have been exceptional—this tournament will be a true testament to their hard work and determination. We’re ready to represent with pride..
As a corporate event, tables are available for $1,000. Proceeds will go toward supporting local boxing development programs and future Marist sports initiatives, helping to sustain a strong sporting culture that promotes positive, drug-free lifestyles.
