The Supreme Court denied a request to adjourn the Falealili No.1 election petition contempt of court hearing after the lawyer representing 35 of the 50 accused asked for another week.

The 50 witnesses will appear at 12.30 pm on Tuesday (today) to explain why they did not appear in court when the matter was on 8 December.

Fuimaono Sarona Ponifasio requested another week’s adjournment to have time to interview her 35 clients.

Justice Leiataualesa Darryl Clarke raised concerns that the matter should not be adjourned due to her request because it has been made clear to Fetu Lagaaia when he appeared that the witnesses would be called on Tuesday.

Chief Justice Satui Simativa Perese said Fuimaono should not have taken instructions from these respondents if she knew she did not have time to consult with them since she was overseas.
