For 63-year-old Lialiai Asomatagifa Alofa, winning a brand new red Hyundai Creta is an answer to his prayers. This is the first time he will own a car, and the vehicle solves the problem of transporting his wife to the hospital.
Alofa from Fusi Safotu, Lāfai, Savai‘i was overcome with emotion on Friday.
“I feel very grateful. I didn’t get this out of luck — it was all God,” he said through tears.
The elderly father explained that until now, he and his wife relied on their children’s vehicle whenever she needed medical care. Winning the car means they finally have one of their own.
After the prize-giving, Alofa said he was eager to return to Savai‘i in his new vehicle to share the news with his wife.
Alofa is married to Meafua Alofa and is the father of seven children, some of whom live overseas, while others remain in Savai‘i.
His youngest daughter, who is still in her teenage years and attending school, had promised to buy him a car once she finished her studies.
“She promised me a car after school, but I am beyond thankful that I have one now,” he said.
Although currently unemployed, Alofa supports his family through farming. He previously worked as a government construction worker but was forced to resign after being electrocuted on the job — an incident that affected movement in his leg and left him with a limp.
Despite these hardships, Alofa said he remains grateful, especially to Vodafone, which he credited for the life-changing gift.
“My phone is cracked and taped together, but I kept topping up. It has paid off,” he said with a smile, adding that he will treasure the vehicle.
Also announced as a winner on Friday was 41-year-old Karoline Iosefo from Moamoa-fou, a mother of nine, who won a white Hyundai Creta for Upolu.
“I Thank the Lord for this. I am very happy,” she said.
Although her family already has vehicles, Iosefo said winning a car through the promotion is special and will make daily life easier.
“This car will help with dropping my children off at school. My husband will be driving, as I can’t drive,” she said.
The vehicle giveaways were part of a Vodafone promotional campaign that ran from 17 October 2025 to 8 January 2026 and attracted strong nationwide participation, recording more than 1.4 million entries from Vodafone customers.
A total of 10 finalists — five from Upolu and five from Savai‘i — qualified for the final draw. The finalists took part in a “spin-the-wheel” challenge, from which one winner from Upolu and Savai‘i was awarded a brand new vehicle.
In recognition of all participants, none of the finalists walked away empty-handed. Those who did not win a vehicle received 5G routers and other prizes through the spin-the-wheel challenge.
Vodafone Samoa chief executive officer Rana Bose said, “We congratulate all our finalists and winners and look forward to delivering even more exciting campaigns for Samoa.”
The entry criteria for this promotion were purchase any device from a Vodafone store, or purchase any prepaid bundle of $18 or more.
