Australian airline Qantas has formally recognised the exceptional work of Faamalolo Matafa Manogi, a Samoa Airways security officer whose calm judgment and adherence to safety protocols stood out only two weeks after stepping into his new role.

According to Qantas Airport Manager Samoa, Papali‘i Francis Fepuleai, Faamalolo’s commendation follows his impressive handling of a recent passenger incident involving an oversized carry-on bag. The situation required him to address a business class traveller, a scenario that can often be challenging, particularly for a new staff member.

Despite the pressure, Faamalolo confidently upheld Qantas’ carry-on requirements, offering a clear explanation of weight limits, safety protocols, and the importance of fair use of overhead locker space. His respectful and composed manner ensured full compliance while preserving a positive customer experience.

“Faamalolo demonstrated strong judgment, operational awareness, and an unwavering commitment to safety,” said Papali‘i Fepuleai. “His actions reflect the high standards we value, and we are proud to acknowledge his excellent work.”

Samoa Airways Manager of Security, Leasiolagi Alvin Onesemo, also expressed his gratitude to Qantas for acknowledging the effort and professionalism of Samoa Airways’ frontline staff.

“We thank Qantas for recognising the hard work and professionalism of our staff,” he said.

“Our team strives every day to uphold the highest standards of safety and customer service. I congratulate Faamalolo on this well-deserved recognition. He has made us incredibly proud.”

Samoa Airways provides ground handling services in Samoa for Fiji Airways, Air New Zealand, and Qantas. The recognition of Faamalolo’s outstanding performance underscores the vital role played by local aviation workers in maintaining safe and efficient operations across all partner airlines.
