Man disturbs burglar in Vaitele-fou break-in

A family in Vaitele-fou is appealing for public assistance after their home was burglarised while they were asleep, an incident that has raised growing concerns over criminal activity in the area.
Tomasi Alipia, a resident of Tava Street, said the break-in occurred late at night while he, his wife, and their three children were asleep in their bedroom. Alipia told the Samoa Observer he was awakened by noises and immediately went to investigate.
“I heard a commotion outside our room and rushed out to see who it was,” Alipia said. “I saw an individual whose face was covered with a mask and carrying a backpack. I chased after him, but he jumped out through the window and ran towards the road.”
Alipia said he was unable to catch the suspect, who fled on foot. Upon returning home, he found that his wife had already contacted the police. A quick search revealed that an electric kettle and a few pieces of clothing had been stolen.
“We are very fortunate that I was home with my wife and children,” he said. “If they had been alone, who knows what could have happened. The matter is now with the police, and we hope the person responsible is caught. Incidents like this are becoming all too common in our community, and something must be done.”
The family is urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area that night to come forward or report any information that could assist the police investigation.
The Samoa Police Service has confirmed that the matter was reported and is currently under investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
The incident has fueled growing concern among residents of Vaitele-fou, who say burglaries and home invasions have become increasingly frequent. Some community members have called for more police patrols and stronger neighbourhood vigilance to deter crime and improve safety.
Despite the frightening ordeal, Alipia said he and his family are grateful that no one was harmed and hope the suspect is brought to justice.
“Our greatest wish is simply to feel safe in our own home,” he said.
Police are encouraging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.
