Hunt in trouble again

Mau Hunt, a social media blogger, was once again charged by the police with defamation and breaching his bail conditions. He was told to stop making comments on social media, however, his inability to refrain has landed him in hot water again.

Hunt was previously charged with allegedly making false claims about Samoa Airways transporting narcotics in empty coffins. He is now facing additional charges of allegedly defaming two complainants.

The complainants are Tupuola Alatanu Wright and Tauofe Ta'aloga Tamua. Both were witnesses in the conspiracy trial that concluded on Thursday in the District Court. It is alleged he made comments on his social media posts about the complainants which were allegedly false.

It has been confirmed that Hunt was arrested on Tuesday morning and was bailed out in the afternoon.

He will appear in court in the next two weeks.

The conditions of Hunt's bail in his previous case were that he was not allowed to make any comments on social media while his case was pending.

Police said the charges are based on Hunt breaching parts of his bail.

He was recently charged with one count of harassment using electronic devices, one count of defamation and one count of insulting words.

The new charges are similar to the previous ones, with possible additional charges to be laid against him.

Hunt’s blogs on social media have been deemed contentious, with viewpoints often in favour of the FAST political party. He has been known to make false claims, which have been defamatory in most instances.
