Tofaga Meke joins Pacific Break
Samoan artist Tofaga Meke is a living proof that sometimes the greatest opportunities come from what seem like setbacks.
Known for her heartfelt lyrics and powerful melodies, Tofaga is set to perform at the first-ever Pacific Break Launch Concert in Samoa, a moment she describes as both shocking and exciting. The free concert will take place this Friday, 27 June, at Friendship Park.
“I grew up in a talented family where everyone can sing and play instruments,” Tofaga shared.
“But it was all for church, youth ceremonies and all. It wasn’t until I didn’t make the Top 12 in the Samoa Star Search 2020 that I decided to start recording music seriously.”
That moment became a turning point. With the support of local producer Dr. Rome, Tofaga released her first single, “Uma Lou Avanoa,” on YouTube.
The song quickly gained attention and opened the door for her to develop her talent professionally. “Not only did I start getting paid for music, but I also finally had a chance to share my story with the world,” she said.
Tofaga’s songs, written in everyday Samoan language, are inspired by true stories from her life. “Each song carries a different message,” she explained.
“I want people to understand them easily. Music is a medicine, and my goal is to help people heal and feel inspired.”
Now with millions of views and a growing fanbase, Tofaga has earned a spot on the prestigious Pacific Break stage. “When I got the email from Pacific Break, I was shocked. I already signed the contract, and I can’t wait to share the stage with previous winners and other talented Pacific artists.”
Being part of the first Pacific Break launch concert held in Samoa is more than just a performance for Tofaga; it’s a milestone.
“It’s a great honour. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet other artists from across the Pacific and share our journeys. I feel so blessed.”
Tofaga also has strong hopes for other Samoan artists joining Pacific Break.
“Believe in yourself, be confident, and always look to learn something new. There are so many ways to showcase your talent, just don’t give up.”
And for young Pacific musicians who look up to her, her message is simple: “Just do you. Be yourself. That’s what I do.”
With humility, passion, and an unwavering belief in the power of music, Tofaga Meke stands as a rising star, not just in Samoa but across the Pacific.
