Mystery surrounds teenager's death
Mystery surrounds the death of a 16-year-old who was shot in the head in Faleatiu last week. Police confirm receiving mixed reports, and this has led to raids in the hills of Faleatiu.
No one has been arrested, and the suspects are believed to be on the run. Some reports claim it was a hunting accident while others claim it was drug-related.
Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo says no one has been charged for the death of this young boy because the family of the teenager and other witnesses have made different statements regarding the incident.
Auapaau said a police raid at the scene of the incident resulted in the recovery of body parts believed to be of the teenager.
"The police found parts of the deceased's brain up in the mountain where he was allegedly shot," Auapaau said.
He said the police received written statements from relatives of the deceased, and they all have different statements made to the police.
The second part of the police raid at Faleatiu was to try and find two men who allegedly discharged firearms at the entrance of the access road into the village.
Auapaau confirmed that these men have previous convictions and are still at large.
Auapaau said once the police finalise their investigations into the death of this Faleatiu teen, then charges will be made for anyone who is suspected of having shot this young boy.
He said some family members said the teenager was shot during a pig hunt, and others gave a whole different reason.
The 16-year-old's body is still at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital morgue awaiting an autopsy to identify the cause of death.
