Teen drowns while fishing
A teenager who went out fishing is believed to be the latest drowning victim, adding to the death toll caused by drowning.
A 17-year-old from Tafitoala, Safata, has been confirmed dead after he drowned on Saturday night. The young man was out fishing with others when the incident occurred.
Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed that the police were searching for the body of the teenager, which was recovered in the early hours of Sunday.
Messages of condolences were seen on social media for the parents and family of this teenager.
Meanwhile, a man died when he was struck by a car on Friday night at Alamagoto.
Police confirmed that a 45-year-old man was driving this car, and investigations continue.
Auapaau confirmed that the driver hasn't been charged and the police are awaiting results from an ongoing investigation.
Police have urged the public to be careful and exercise caution when out at sea.
Last week, a 21-year-old man’s body was recovered in Fagalii. The man was out fishing with a teenager on Saturday night.
The teenager returned to land and raised the alarm after the man failed to return.
