Safety priority at marathon
Excitement is building as Samoa prepares to host one of its major running events, the Samoa Marathon. Organisers have confirmed that all preparations are in place to ensure the safety and comfort of participants throughout the race.
Seti Afoa, the organiser for Samoa Events, shared confidence in the team’s readiness for the big day. “We have a good team on the ground in the morning for the marathon,” he said.
“Every marathon runner has their car for the whole race, for security, for water and food, for light during the race,” he said.
"Runners across all distances will be well supported with water stations set up along the course. The half marathon will feature 12 water stations, the 10-kilometre route will have eight stations, the six-kilometre route will have six, and the shortest route, three kilometres, will have three water stations. In addition to this, roving vehicle support will be providing water and ice where needed."
Helping to ensure the health and safety of all involved, the Samoa Red Cross Society is also playing a key role. Mulipola Babey Talaula Suniula, the Volunteer Coordinator for the Samoa Red Cross, said they are fully prepared for this major event.
“Our volunteer team is helping with the water solutions, making sure runners are safe and that everyone involved in the event is looked after,” she explained.
“We also use teams from the community to respond to first aid needs, starting from Manono to Apia.”
Police support will also be present throughout the event to help ensure smooth coordination and public safety.
With a dedicated team of organisers, volunteers, and emergency responders, this year’s Samoa Marathon is confident to be a safe and well-managed event for runners and spectators alike.
