Loto Taumafai Inclusive Education School came alive with colour, creativity, and celebration on Friday as students, teachers, and families gathered to mark Book Day, a special event designed to nurture children's abilities, language skills, and passion for reading.

The event began with an opening prayer and hymn, setting a joyful and reflective tone for the day. A welcome speech followed, emphasising the power of books to support not just literacy, but confidence, creativity, and inclusive learning.

Students across all levels participated, with the junior classes charming the audience through energetic performances and group readings. The senior students from Years 7, 8, 9, and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) class took to the stage with bold, imaginative presentations.

Year 9 students earned enthusiastic applause for their performance of original songs and poems celebrating books and their enduring importance, even in a fast-paced digital world. In a moving moment, some students shared readings in braille, while others who are deaf acted out stories supported by Teacher Aides fluent in sign language.

The celebration concluded with a tour of the school library, where parents expressed their gratitude for the resources available. “It is great that the school has a wonderful library with resources useful for both the students and the teachers,” said one parent. Another added, “The school is so blessed to have some wonderful books that can help students learn.”

Principal Sharon Suhren thanked the families, staff, and students for making the event a success and reaffirmed the school’s mission to empower every child through inclusive and engaging education.

The Book Day celebration was more than just an event — it was a powerful reminder of how literacy, creativity, and support can help every student grow, learn, and thrive.
