Prayers signal the start of 16 Days of Activism
The Samoa Victim Support Group signalled the start of their 16 Days of Activism against violence with the 'Let It End With Me" message in their Monday morning devotion.
When the children at the SVSG Campus of Hope woke up on Monday morning, they dressed in yellow and sent a message to the world: to put an end to the brutality of abuse and violence in every Samoan family.
The colour yellow represents hope and the sun, which rises every morning and brings with it new mercies.
The activism started on 25 November and will run until 10 December with various activities.
To reduce the likelihood of gender-based violence (GBV) in families and the role that financial hardships play in gender-based violence, SVSG will run an agricultural business class training Nofotane women and their partners in Savaii and Upolu this week.
SVSG will commemorate World Disability Day with a two-day program beginning on Tuesday 3 December. This will highlight the rights of Persons with Disability (PWDs) and advocate for putting a stop to violence against people, particularly children with disabilities.
To be inclusive in the battle against violence, SVSG is also planning to start a campaign called "Let It End with Me" for taxi drivers from Wednesday 4 December to Friday 6 December. Taxi drivers will become messengers for peace advocating to end violence.
From Wednesday 4 December to Tuesday 10 December, SVSG Youth Ambassadors will conduct their youth advocacy programmes in their capacity as advocates and changemakers for the abolition of violence.
The construction and opening of the Nofotane community-based lockable markets from Friday 6 December to Tuesday 10 December is motivated by the goal of empowering nofotane women and their spouses to be financially secure.
SVSG President Siliniu said the goal of the 16 Days of Activism is to work together more effectively.
"SVSG's 16 Days of Activism aims to raise Samoan people's knowledge and influence of the "Let It End with Me" message. The all-inclusive strategy aims to influence the Samoan society's behavioural shift to raise awareness of the "Let it End with Me" message."
