Samoa Police confirmed the death of a man in a single-car crash on the big island of Savaii on Friday last week. It is believed that the man was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his son.

The incident occurred between Taga to Gataivai area on Friday afternoon and the injured passengers were transported in an ambulance to Upolu on the same day.

Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo said the man who died on Friday is 58 years old and is the father of the driver of the vehicle.

The man sustained serious injuries and two other passengers in the same car were transferred to the national hospital at Moto’otua.

Auapaau said the initial report from Police suspected speeding was a factor causing the vehicle to lose control.

“Another elderly man is in critical condition as is the driver of the car,” he said.

“One passenger of the car has been discharged and sustained minor injuries.”

The Commissioner said the driver has not been charged yet as he is still admitted and has not been cleared by the doctors.
