A heavy rain warning is now in place for all of Samoa.

People living in low-lying areas and flood prone areas are also advised to take extra precautions as heavy rainfall is forecasted throughout the week for the country.

Assistant C.E.O. in charge of the Meteorology Division, Mulipola Ausetalia Titimaea, confirmed this to the Samoa Observer yesterday.

“Heavy Rain Warning causing flooding for low lying areas was issued on Monday and shall remain in effect until further notice, perhaps tomorrow (today) it will be cancelled,” he said.

Mulipola says Samoa will be experiencing heavy rainfalls in the next few days until the weekend.

“The current unstable weather with heavy rainfall covering the country is caused by a broad area and very active trough (clouds) linked to a tropical disturbance (T.D.) to the north of Wallis and Futuna."

“At this time, the T.D. is forecast to move south in the direction of Fiji and will not affect Samoa.”

“For inter-island travelers, he said: “A Small Crafts Advisory (alias) was issued for the public from high swells - four meters swells.”

Mulipola is issues a stern warning to the public to be mindful of river bursts.

“Stay away from the fast flowing streams and rivers, transports to slow down when travelling because of excess water along our roads caused by heavy downpours.”
