Goshen Trust Mental Health Services have raised over $50,000 to help with the running of their facility and the funding of essential services for mental health patients.

Funding is essential for every non-governmental organisation and the support that the Goshen Trust needed is critical to keep their facilities and services running.

The non-profit organisation hosted two events in a golf day and corporate table dinner fundraiser which ended with a complete success. This would not have been possible without the help of local firms Ah Liki Company Ltd and Frankie Company Ltd.

Goshen Trust Board Treasurer, Faasootauloa Sam Saili, said the funds will be used to pay for the facility expenses, wages for the employees and most importantly the welfare of the patients which also includes their medication.

"The organisation is in operation 24/7 and it needs quite a lot of funding to keep it that way. We can only take up to 12 patients at a time," Faasootauloa said.

The non-profit organisation works in partnership with the Ministry of Health's Mental Health Unit to rehabilitate patients who are looking to potentially integrate back into the community. Goshen Trust is normally the last step of the integration process before they return home.

Faasootauloa added that their recent program of activities was not only focused on raising funds, but also raising awareness on mental health issues in Samoa.

"The fundraiser was to not only raise money but to also raise awareness about mental health in Samoa, to help those who show symptoms and the importance of self care," he said.

"Selfcare is very important for all of us and learning how to take care of yourself will also help you know how to take care of others."

While Christmas is considered a time of joy for many families, it can also bring pressure on families and individuals. The Goshen Trust urges everyone to take their time to practice self care and enjoy the festive season.
