Samoa Victim Support Group (S.V.S.G.) recorded 15 violence against women cases over a 16-day period as the country marked the 16 Days of Activism global movement in Samoa.

And the non-government organisation says that out of the 15 reported cases of violence against women, 32 children were involved in the new cases.

Out of the 15 cases where women were involved, 10 were from Upolu and five from Savai'i. Out of these, there were six cases of domestic violence, seven of maintenance and custody issue, one of child abuse and one of sexual abuse.

There were three cases where the victims walked into their office and three who called their helpline. Of these five, four were women and one was a child. The number of children involved in all the cases was 32 who ranged from three months old to 16-years-old.

The S.V.S.G. received calls on their helpline who also requested for food, clothing and counselling efforts.

President of the S.V.S.G.  Siliniu Lina Chang said their work has been difficult and without support it would not have been possible.

"We have been focusing on the progress of Samoa Victim Support Group. We looked at the progress that was done over the years and everyone that was involved in this, and we wanted to acknowledge all of the work that these people have done," she said.

"Small change will lead to big changes. What we are trying to do is to focus on approaches we can take to eliminate violence in the communities through the strong support network we have."

The S.V.S.G. have been working side by side with church ministers, untitled men from different villages, Nofotane and the Aumaga and witheir involvement, they were able to make so much progress over the years.

"We have village reps who have received counseling training from APTC so that they can be well equipped with the appropriate knowledge and skills to apply in their respective communities," Siliniu said.

Leaving no one behind is the long term motto of the S.V.S.G. and it drives them to work with the grassroot level, who are the change makers of this country.

The S.V.S.G. was able to answer to these calls of help through their helpline that is free for anyone to call.
