The final count for Samoa’s 2025 general election is complete, with the Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party winning 30 seats, the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) taking 14, independents securing four, and the Samoa Uniting Party (SUP) winning three seats.

Among the women elected, caretaker Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa (SUP) retained her Lotofaga seat. Aeau Tima Leavai (HRPP) won Falealupo, while FAST candidates Mulipola Anarosa Molioo (Palauli 1), Afamasaga Leone Mati Masame (Aana Alofi 4), and Seve Tei Fuimaono (Safata 1) also secured seats.

Under Samoa’s constitutional requirements, at least six women must be members of the 51-seat Parliament to meet the 10 per cent minimum representation threshold.

Notably, Afamasaga (FAST) defeated caretaker Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster (SUP) by 394 votes. Fiame and Leatinuu Wayne Sooialo are the only two caretaker ministers to retain their seats, as all others were defeated.

Three major landslide victories were recorded by party leaders: Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt (FAST), Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi (HRPP), and Fiame Naomi Mataafa (SUP).

The closest contest was in Palauli 2, where independent candidate Fui Faaolatane Ponifasio Vasa narrowly defeated Olo Faaolatane Fiu Tuala Pao by a single vote, 632 to 631.

A notable seat switch occurred in Faleata 1. Preliminary results had Manuleleua Paletasaia Talitau Tovale (FAST) in the lead, but after official and special votes were counted, Faumuina Opapo Soanai Oeti (HRPP) won the seat with 1,466 votes.
