Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi, the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) candidate for Faleata No. 3, cast his vote on Friday at the Temple of Bethel Hall polling station in Vaitele-tai.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer before casting his vote, Lealailepule emphasised the importance of the day for all Samoans. “This is an important day for all of Samoa because it is the first time a snap election has been held, different from the usual election,” he said, underscoring the unique circumstances surrounding this election.

Despite the uncertainty that often accompanies a snap election, the candidate expressed optimism at the level of voter engagement. “Although there is some uncertainty and tension among the people, I am pleased to see a high turnout at many of the polling stations here in Faleata No. 3,” he said. Observers at the polling station also noted that voters arrived steadily throughout the morning, reflecting the community’s interest in the electoral process.

Lealailepule urged voters to participate responsibly and maintain the peaceful nature of Samoa’s democratic process. He expressed hope that today’s election would avoid any disputes or impasses similar to those experienced during the 2021 elections. “I pray and I hope that we do not see a repeat of the impasse that followed the 2021 election,” he said, highlighting the importance of an orderly and transparent voting process.

“Today is the day that the Lord has made for us all to cast our votes as a democratic nation. Whatever the outcome, God is always in control.”
